Adesina assured the university’s management and students that those responsible for the killing would not escape punishment. He disclosed that the police had been directed to summon all relevant individuals, including the Baale (traditional leader) of Imaweje Village, the host community where the incident occurred, in order to determine the cause of the student’s death.

The statement emphasized that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands and that necessary actions would be taken to ensure that all those involved face the consequences. The government appealed to the students of the institution to remain peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the police investigation. It further reiterated its commitment to preventing such incidents from occurring anywhere in the state.

The incident had led to a violent protest by some enraged students of the university, who allegedly set four houses in the community, including that of the Baale, on fire. The identity of the deceased student has yet to be confirmed, but reports suggest that the student was beaten to death on suspicion of belonging to a cult group.

In response to the crisis, the university management had announced the closure of the institution on May 28 to prevent the situation from escalating further.
